The EB-5 Immigrant Investor Program grants permanent residency for foreign investors with important investments into U.S. business that thereby, creates jobs for American workers. To be eligible, an investor has to invest at least $1.05 million in a new or existing business. However, the investment can be $800,000 if it occurs in a Targeted Employment Area (TEA), which are rural or high-unemployment areas.
That investment has to create no less than 10 full-time jobs for U.S. workers, besides preserving those jobs inside a period of two years. Investors additionally must also clearly show that those investment funds were obtained in a law-abiding manner. Successful applicants, as well as their own spouses and unmarried children under 21, do receive conditional green cards, which can then later be converted to permanent residency after fulfilling job creation and investment requirements.
